In Houston, Texas on Friday, April 11th, a little girl was abducted from her daycare by one of the employees. Fortunately, police were able to find both of them a short while later.
Shemika Thacker-Brantley, the mother of the girl who was kidnapped, is overjoyed to have her daughter back. She stated, “It was the worst day and best day of my life, all wrapped up into one.” However, she wants the daycare center held accountable because it failed to background check the employee who attempted to abduct her daughter.
Raeshala Rhylette Morris was charged with kidnapping. She had her own child taken away for physical neglect. Morris had been living in a homeless shelter and was working as a trainee at the daycare center. The family believes Morris tried to pass the little girl off as a boy, dressing her in different clothes and changing her hairstyle.
Childcare licensing will be investigating the daycare center to check child-to-staff ratios and to see if there have been violations in the past.
The daycare center owner has apologized to the family, but a simple background check on the employee in question would have avoided this incident, which fortunately this time, ended well.
